Deciphering G × E interaction for sugarcane yield and quality through integrated AMMI, GGE biplot, and AMMI stability parameters
Abstract
The present study evaluated 19 sugarcane genotypes, including two standard checks, across multiple environments to
assess stability and performance for cane yield and commercial cane sugar yield (CCSY). Combined ANOVA revealed
significant genotype, environment, and G × E interaction effects. AMMI analysis identified Co 18009, Co 18024, and Co
11015 as stable for cane yield, and Co 17003, Co 17013, and Co 8009 for CCSY. Stability parameters, including AMMI
Stability Value, Modified AMMI Stability Value, Genotypic Stability Index, Averages of the squared eigenvector values
stability statistic, sums of the absolute values of the IPC scores, Mean performance and stability in multi-environment
trials, and Multi-trait Stability Index, largely supported these findings. GGE biplot analysis further confirmed Co 12009,
Co 18009, and Co 11015 as superior and widely adaptable genotypes. Overall, Co 18009 and Co 12009 consistently
exhibited high performance and stability across environments. These genotypes are promising candidates for further
multilocation evaluation and potential commercial release across diverse agro-climatic regions of India.
